How to make a Sighting-In Benchrest Table

The following instruction on making a Sighting in Bench Rest is provided courtesy of Barry Wooton, a member of the Nowra Rifle Club in NSW, Australia

Step 1

                         The Shooting Bench

Start by buying a set of 2 saw horses from your local hardware store about $35.00 a pair (sell one to your mate so he can make one too).

Also from your local hardware store buy a piece of pine 19 mm thick by 1 metre by 240 mm wide and 3 or 4 coach bolts 75mm long with nuts and flat washers to bolt the pine top to the saw horse.

Step 2

The Shooting Bench Assembly of Base
Place the piece of pine on top of the saw horse and centre it, drill 3 or 4 6mm holes through both and bolt the pine top to the saw horse as per picture.

Step 3

The Shooting Bench Finished Project Cut of the pine excess length to the same length as the horse.

Round the corners (only if you want to neaten things) that’s it- add a Caldwell bag set and a stool.

If you are about 175 cm tall this works fine – any taller and your knees are a bit high.

The Finished Product
